apple mail connection problem

Can someone help please??

We use a quickmail server in a remote location and have done for many years, POP and IMAP connections are possible.

We have 25 users and one of them has consistent connection errors from a remote office location. If we re-start the quickmail server then he can connect and get / receive mail. He is using apples mail as a mail engine. We have other apple mail users from this location sending and receiving mail without errors.

When this troubled machine connects from another remote location (home) then the apple mail works fine which makes me think it is a network setting that is incorrect rather than a mail / server setting.

Typically on first connection he can receive and send mail, on the second and subsequent connections he can receive mail only and connection to the smpt part of the server fails or slows to zero data transfer and just hangs.

All the internet connections are the same as all other macs in the same office. This mac works fine in all other respects. It is running 10.5.6 with the same results.

Any help greatly appreciated as its driving me nuts!!

Thanks

Richard

Some ISPs block port 25, which is used by SMTP connection by default. Can you ask your colleague to open the Activity window ("Window -> Activity" from menu bar) and tell us what Mail.app is actually doing in the background?
