Google Calendar iPhone sync

Hi everyone,

I currently use NuevaSync for my iPhone 3G to synchronize my Google Calendar to the iPhone. This solution works, but is not the optimal solution I expect from the world's "best" phone. The NuevaSync service is sometimes not available and thus locks up my calendar with the constant "syncing circle." Desktop synchnorization is simply not an option - I did not pay $200 on the phone and am not paying $100+ a month to "tether" my phone.

So I'm wondering whether or not anybody has heard of a legitimate Apple or Google-approved method to sync the two together... is there going to be a software update to the phone or to GCal? Will it ever come? Stuff like that.

The guys at NuevaSync have done a lot to help me out (I've reset and done everything as per their FAQs). But even then, the service has a limitation in that it syncs everything as one calendar, not splitting up the events by their respective Google calendars (resulting in all events being under the "Main" calendar.)

The same goes for contact sync with Google.

I have actually written an entire article about calendaring and synchronization to the iPhone (and other phones) on my blog - TechNest Report - that is probably too long for this post/forum, so read it if you like here.

Thanks,

Alex

Man are you a whiner! Your first paragraph is ridiculous

But I'll help you anyway. Go into Google Calendar and in click on "Sync" in the upper right. Should be self explanatory from there

Whiner? \ I consider myself a perfectionist ... thanks for your response!

But, if you closely read my post, it says that desktop sync is not an option. I'm perfectly aware of syncing to iCal on the Mac and participated in the beta of the CalDav solution you point me to.

What I'm after is a native sync GCal solution for the iPhone (since my original post is, after all, in the "iPhone" section).

    Thanks, but it doesn't help.

Well... it doesn't require desktop sync because it syncs with iCal and then pushed using MobileMe. Which, you didn't say was not an option nor did you say that you don't use MobileMe already. MobileMe may be a smart investment in your situation.

I really like MobileMe, but it doesn't work for me for one single reason: there is no way to share a calendar with others AND allow them to make changes to it (like Google Calendar does). I have a production calendar that I share with colleagues and they are able to schedule things for me. MobileMe does not deliver on this feature.

I really appreciate your help, but I think you're missing the point of my original post, though. I'm well aware of these "hacks" and "work-arounds" - which is exactly what you recommend I do with MobileMe. What I'm waiting/hoping Apple/Google (possibly both) would do is to make a simple setting in the iPhone's Settings menu that would just sync GCal and iPhone Cal over the air (OTA).

I was wondering if anybody has heard that anything of the sort is coming down the road.\
