MacOS X limited refresh rates.

Since MacOS X 10.1.5 ( Jaguar included) , all my refresh rates are limited to 75Hz, whatever the resolution I choose.

Under MacOS 9, I can go up to 1280*1024/85Hz or 1024*768/120Hz

Is there a tip somewhere to solve this problem ?

B/W G3, Stock ATI Rage128, Iiyama CRT 17"

That sucks 75 is way too low-I don't think I will get Jaquar.120 is the only acceptable.

I've had the same problem since Public Beta.

    There's still no fix.

The oodles of other fixes and optimizations and new features greatly justifies getting Jaguar, even if some bugs like this are still present.

Actually I have 10.1.3 installed right now and I can set it to 120 mhz-maybe it has to do with particular displays-one of the things I've liked about OSX is that it allowed high refresh rates without having to install software that might be questionable. For me it is a huge issue-enough to keep me from upgrading-I hate low refresh rates-and contrary to what companies claim I can tell the difference between rtates higher than 85-which is the current supposedly undetectable level-but I can tell the diffence-quite easily-and low refresh rates give me a headache and make it difficult for my eyes to focus.

And, btw Xidius, 120 MHz refresh is nothing new. Monitors have been operating at that rate for years. My two-year-old card and monitor support that rate, but OSX never has.

I believe the proper speed is 120 Hz. There is no way in the world that your monitor is refreshing 120 MILLION times per second.

I remember being able to go past 75Hz with various 10.1.X versions, but DON'T install 10.1.5, or you'll be stuck at an awful 75Hz.

Perhaps it's an issue with non-Apple monitors ?

Same on a Dual 450 with Stock Rage128Pro. Since 10.1.5 I'm stuck at 75Hz and I miss a LOT of resolutions as well. I can't run my 22" CRT at 1600x1200@85Hz which works perfectly in Mac OS 9. A clean install of 10.2 gioves the same limitations to max out at 75Hz, and a limited set of resolutions.

I have alwase been able to run 1600x1200 85Hz on a sony 21" crt, in 10.1.5 and now jag. w/geforce 4mx. Never had any problems at all, must be a monitor driver issue?

My 19" Iiyama VisionMasterPro displays 1280x1024@100Hz. There is an option of 120Hz in 1024x768.

I tried to boot without any monitor attached, but I just got a blank screen, even if my computer still ran fine.

That is weird, 10.2 lets me go up to 120 Hz no problem if the resolution will do it. I am running at 1600x1200@85 Hz. I would reinstall maybe.

What type of monitor do you have TW99 ? I assume it's not an Apple-branded one.

I'll try to swith to older ATI128.kext. If I'm still able to boot, may be I'll go past 75Hz.
