USB Hard Drive won't mount after 10.5.6 update...

After updating to 10.5.6 my usb hard drive will no longer mount, it does not evan show in system profiler or disk utility, the light comes on and the sound of the drive spinning can be herd....does anyone have any pointers on how to fix this, or experienced the same problem?
