<a href="http://www.illuminex.com"; target="_blank">illumineX</a> has a screen saver called iX Xirtam that does this very well.

The site was VERY unintuitive, but I managed to find the download link for the screensavers... Here ya go!

You also might want to try <a href="http://www.macosxapps.com/"; target="_blank">Mac OS X Apps.com </a>. They have a lot of cool things there, including a version of the Matrix screen saver.

Thanks a lot folks! I got it !

I don't know why, I love this screen effect, despite the movie which I didn't liked very much (Keenu Reeves is a non-actor. He's very bad). This effect reminds me something related to the film and many other sci-fi stories, especially W. Gibson's Neuromancian and some Philip. K. Dick's novels. I love sci-fi.

I don't mean to sound like an ass but those matrix screen savers suck. They look nothing like the real thing. They don't flow as well and the letters are 4x the size they should be. There used to be an awesome one for OS 9 that I had but can't remember the name. With that one, you could have stuck a mac into the movie and noone would have been able to tel the difference. Anyone know any GOOD matrix screen savers (i mean no disrespect to the programers who made this, i understand it is hard)

Did you play with the settings at all?

You can get it to look very Matrix-like.

Personally though, I use the nice, pulsating Black Light screen saver.

Wow. I installed Xirtam.saver and love it. Finally a cool screensaver that works as I want it to.

I actually enjoyed the movie when I finally saw it on HBO, even though I never went to see it on the big screen because I thought I wouldn't like it.

iX Xirtam is better than the actual Matrix screensaver. I left it running and my dad thought it was some sort of terrible kernel panic! I just heard him say "Oh God, what's happened to the computer now!?" And then I had to remind him that he'd only seen the film a couple of months ago.

Set up your Matrix screensaver the way you like it and then type this into the Terminal:

    /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background

    Talk about awesome!!!

    Or you can use <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=11202&db=mac"; target="_blank">xback.</a>

    I don't use, so I don't know about speed.
