This bug has been around since 10.0, maybe even Public Beta. I'm surprised Apple didn't get around to fixing it. It's certainly not a big bug or an exceedingly annoying one (like the busted FTP in the Finder... arrg), but it is a really *old* bug.

Yes, I managed to snap the main window away from the drawer for Mail.app COMPLETELY off the screen!

Tee hee.

If you're familiar with the sample program "DrawerMadness" that comes with Apple's developer tools, you might find these images a little... odd.

no, I saw that they aren't connected to their parents window, but I didn't thought that that's such a big deal.

but, now, how do you make that bug appear ?

edit: maybe I didn't saw what the deal would be because there are 5 pics about the same thing in your 2nd post. clear ?

For something similar, start typing a web address in IE and when the auto-complete drop down menu appears, drag the window around.

I'm thinking that one is more of Microsoft's problem.

Sheets can get disconnected pretty easy too.

Open 427 windows in OmniWeb and as the 17th (or whatever) asks about cookies, the sheet may lose track of where it is supposed to be anchored. (Particularly if you've been scooting windows around as they pop up.)
