Anyone want to DELVE into a FCP rumor I heard from a GREAT source?

It was about 12+ months ago.

The person that told me said it was very much (in terms of looks) similar to iMovie in that it had ease of use to it, however it was still as deep as the present FCP.

If this is true, in some respects, you have to wonder if;

a) Is Apple going to cut the cost of this from $1000 to $499

and

b) Target the consumers who want to do pro work.

There is something to be said with using templates or things such as mac mails STATIONARY, I always go in and edit them if I have the time.

Wish Apple would develop programs like iWeb deeper (dreamweaver/flash), create products that can go deeper and similar to BannerZest, PulpMotion, as well as PRO AUDIO and FCP. I wouldn't mind seeing an easier version of SHAKE and MOTION too. Again, there is something to be said about being good at it though.

Why does Apple have to develop everything? They do an app when there is a real obvious need because third party is ignoring it/doing it exceptionally poorly, or they are trying to open up a new space. Third party can handle itself just fine, the non-Adobe apps you cite are pretty good and there are other alternatives to the Adobe apps.

Very few consumers have the stomach for what it takes to do Pro work (time and $$$$).

Though I will say the next versions of Final Cut Express and Logic Express will probably

form a pretty solid tandem for $399. Hell add Motion and Soundtrack Pro sell the bundle for $499. It wouldn't sell like hotcakes but it'd be a solid group of apps.

I still remain convinced that Apple's going to do just that. They added FTP support to iWeb and pretty solid MobileMe support. They are sprinting towards leveraging Javascript (Spoutcore) and HTML5 for everyday computing. Why not deliver and iWeb Pro with kickass Javascript, CSS, Live Preview and more?

    Not enough

Most vector tools aren't even close to Illustrator/Freehand quality

There is no decent Framemaker replacement

Every graphic application tries to be a Photoshop clone

Dreamweaver used to be such a unique program but I don't even really see the same luster that it once had.

    Page design apps are rare.

Graphics in general are boring. The washed masses whip our their credit cards every 18 months to buy a new truckload of Adobe features in CS "insert numeral here" that they'll never use.

Apple almost has to create some of these markets because so many developers are just so damn derivative. They'll attempt to give you a cheap clone rather than buck the trend with something new.

If Apple hadn't developed Aperture you wouldn't have Lightroom to choose from. If they hadn't developed iTools/iLife you probably wouldn't have Photoshop/Premier Elements.

To be fair there are a lot of developers doing some really unique stuff and as the dev tools and frameworks improve I expect to see even more but frankly I love seeing Apple designed software.

Nah. THe new Final Cut Suite should be amazing, especially on a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard.

    And then there's Phenomenon.

Apple may use a new FCP to entice midrange customers, but they're not going to target the consumer market.

Well they might not target consumers but according to what this person saw its about 180 degree's easier to use, similar to iMovie, yet still has the depth of FCP, so we have to wonder, does Apple have it right that in the next 10 years TV will be replaced by NET television, producers will be everywhere and content will never enough. I know a few PRO sound designers too that were the FOLEY directors, eg NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN and he said, Apple came by and gave them a half dozen free FCP suites and they did the whole movie on it.

Wonder what division of APPLE you would have to work for that gives the software away free. Certainly not part of their retail division - has to be part of marketing and promotions but never see those positions listed - would love to do that.
