A copy of the letter send out to apple employees
Team,
I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.
In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.
I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple's day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.
I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.
Steve

Whether that's going to happen I'm certain even he wouldn't know. It depends on how well he can get.
Although his cancer was cured he had a serious illness which resulted in quite drastic surgery, removing organs and parts of organs that cannot really be replaced. He's bound to have a strict diet and severely hampered lifestyle for the rest of his life. And any imbalance will have severe consequences quickly and take longer to sort out than for a healthy person.
It's quite possible for example that he will need more corrective surgery in the future to remove poorly re-joined tissue.
Or in other words, he's bound to have difficulties with his health for the rest of his life.
If problems happen only once in a while then he will return as full-time CEO.
If they happen rather more frequently than he'd like, he might opt for a part-time CEO title, 'iCEO' again - but this time 'intermittent CEO'.
And if his health issues occur very frequent he will have to permanently resign as CEO.
In any case, I wish him well and will send positive thoughts.
May he recover quicker than he hoped he would!
