Need help backing up iTunes

I need to reformat my Windows PC and am having trouble using iTunes Backup to back up my library. The first disc (it says 4 DVDs will be necessary) burns fine, but when the tray opens to add the next disc, nothing seems to happen, no progress bar or signs that anything is happening. There is no acknowledgement that the second disc is starting and there is only random sounding noises coming from my DVD drive. Also, somewhere along the process, it begins to play back the whole library. Is there a better way to back up my Library, so that when I reinstall iTunes, everything, including Playlists, will reload properly? I know ehere the Library is located on my HD. I have 15Gs of music I loaded from my CD collection, a time consuming process I want to avoid repeating

I can copy my Library to DVD from it's folder on my HD, I just want to make sure it's the right one and the back up will load correctly with iTunes when I reinstall it
