Restoring Contact Info from iPhone

I have an iPhone 3G.

My system recently crashed and I lost all current versions of my contact list (outlook).



When I've plugged in an iPhone/iPod before after a rebuild of a system, it's always cleared my device and reloaded.



Is there a way to restore my contact list from the iPhone?

    If you have mobile me--you can just re-sync

    Is there anything else that can be done to restore contacts without mobile me? I was trying to update the phone software when it crashed during the update process. The phone needed to be restored and then updated and now has no contact info.... Help please!
