MacBox '09?

We converted to a Mac just before they released Leopard and have since added a MacBook to our Apple family. Our iMac is running Tiger and iLife '07 while our MacBook is running Leopard and iLife '08. We like Leopard but prefer iLife '07 over '08. My understanding is that they've brought back some features and added new features to iLife '09 and are offering as part of the MacBox with Leopard and iWork '09. I could care less about the latter and am unsure about upgrading to Leopard on the iMac with Snow Leopard coming later this year.

I'd like to have both of our Macs on the same OS version and same iLife version. How anal is Apple about their licenses? The family pack gives you up to five but I only need it on two machines.

Bill it's the honor system in effect. You could buy the family pack and know that you're covered for those two Macs and more or buy the single license and install on two computer and feel devilish in the process

At any rate I think the Macbox is a steal. If you need the Leopard and iLife then iWork is just a bonus. I think iLife 09 is fantastic. I skipped iLife 08 and thus the changes are 2 generations above what I had before.

Thanks! Anything I should/should NOT do during the installation process?

The install procedure is a piece of cake but if I were to recommend some things I'd say to do the custom installation and check off the language localizations and printer drivers that you don't need. I found that they were taking up gigabytes of space on my puny 80GB hard drive. I swear Leopard should have been half the size it is.

Be careful when upgrading Mail. There is a common bug in the "Mac Box" install that makes it seem like you can't access your mail at all. To fix it you will have to delete your rules file. Another problem is that if you're using HTTPMail, you'll need to make sure you upgrade to the new version. Mail also kept repeatedly downloading all the mail in my "junk" folder -- over and over again, until I just deleted them all.

In my opinon, iPhoto is worth every penny of the box. And even if you don't need iWork (neither did I), you're basically getting it for free if you were going to buy Leopard and iLofe anyway.
