How do you remove ".Mac" and "iDisk" tabs from Internet pref pane?

I was recently in an AIM chat room ("Jaguar" in case you're interested) and someone said that their .Mac and iDisk tabs from the Internet pref pane spontaneously disappeared one day.

I want to do that! Or at least change the order - if I could have the order be Web, Email, iDisk, and .Mac, that would be best. Then I wouldn't have to see the .Mac tab, ever.

    Simple!

Open the InternetPref.nib of the Internet.prefPane in Interface Builder and edit to your heart's content. You can rearrange the pieces or delete them.

You should probably create a backup first, though, in case something breaks in the process.

Okay, I'll try to change the order then. That would be much better, and if I do ever end up getting a .Mac account (doubtful at best), they'd still be there.

You're right; people in chat rooms tend to lie a lot. Even if they're not lying, then at the very least it's just a misunderstanding.

How/where can I get Interface Builder though? It's not on Version Tracker.

EDIT: Ah. When I got my Jaguar CDs (they came with my computer when I bought it used), it didn't include the dev tools CD. I just learned that Interface Builder is on that CD. Nevermind.

OTHER EDIT: Someone gave me a link to the ADC website. I logged in and was able to find the dev tools available for download. 255 MB, but I have broadband.

My $.02, but you could just leave well enough alone...it isn't as though you spend a lot of time in the Internet preference panel.

True. I couldn't figure out how to use Interface Builder to move the tabs anyway, and even if I could, I have no idea how I'd be able to modify the actual file - I was working on a duplicate and you can't modify the package.

Heh. It was kinda fun adding random radio buttons and tabbed windows and stuff though.

Hey, buddy, I spend all day in there!

Good point, well made. And it gave me a grin.

If IE doesn't stop changing my default browser, I feel like I do, too.

I have found Omniweb stays as the default browser best if the app (or an alias of the app) is in the default Applications folder.. isn't perfect, but I've certainly spent less time selecting the alias than I did trying to get Omniweb on my other partition to stay selected.

Ok. The defaulting browser thing isn't IE's fault this time. It's an OS X bug. I had it before a couple times. But not lately, but if I ever do, here's what I will do. To quote a friend at AppleAddict.com:

[quote]Okay, you need to remove the following files and then reboot the machione:

    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices.UserCache.csstore

    /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices.LocalCache.csstore (requires root permission)

It's a not-uncommon problem in 10.2, and you may need to do it again later on down the road if/when you reinstall any other browsers. You also might need to download and run Browser Wars, which is a freeware app available at VersionTracker, but getting rid of those files should do the job for you.

Now. As for editing .nib files in OS X with the Interface Builder. I do it all the time. I have no problems yet. It makes the OS more fun knowing you can change many things to how you want them to look. For instance, here's what iChat looks like for me now...

Edit: First post! I'm new here. Hello.
