I suspect many applications to put invisible files or folders on my HD, under Jaguar. After trashing some apps, I want to get rid of those pesky things. So I need to inspect my HD to find all those invisibles files and folders. How ?

ResEdit doesn't help on OS X.

if you don't mind messing in the terminal, a:

    ls -a

    will show all files

If you don't want to use the terminal, then you can use the utility Tinker Tool, just do a search for it on versiontracker.com.

It's a preference pane that shows up like any other in the system preferences window. Using it is as easy as checking a box and relaunching the finder using Tinker Tool.

Tinker Tool gives you the option of "tinkering" with a butt-load of hidden OS X preferences. It's lots of fun if you're the sort who likes to customize your system.

Just as it is there. Open Terminal.app, and type it.

(i'd actually recommend using 'ls -al' -without quotes-, that shows the files in a nice list)

A graphical alternative is Greg's Browser, which should be available on Version Tracker. It behaves just like the finder, but lets you see the invisible files and set their visibility to work with them in the finder.

Greg's Browser is a classic application, but I use it whenever I am missing a gig or so of space. There is usually a print scratch file somewhere which needs deleting. This is one of the ways I find them... because the temp folder is invisible.

    Hope this helps.
