Phone numbers and a pause

Now that I've dumped my Blackberry and am a proud iPhone owner, I have been inundated with info and can't find or remember where I saw information about entering a pause in a contact phone number to say dial an extension after the number is dialed. Anyone know where I might find this info?

    I believe it is just a comma. Each comma I think is a 3 sec pause.
