A few issues here

1. the Spotlight function of "Show all" does not response when I click on it. I did try it on another account on the same machine and the problem still there.

2. Right click on the Trash bin and selecting "Empty trash" does not do much. I have to go to Finder and selecting "Empty trash. Why is that?

3. In Finder if I am trying to search using the little search space at the top right as I type a couple of letters, it freezes, close unexpectedly and ask me if I want to report the error to Apple.

Are all the problem above related?

4. How can I get a new link in Safari 4 to open in a new tab and not in a new window?

Thanks,

B.M.

For number 4, middle click on it. (Ensure your middle mouse button is correctly set up as Button 3, rather than some Expose function or other.)

Alternatively, you can command click on it.

Probably, sounds like you need to wipe and reinstall

The word "wipe" is often used instead of erasing the hard drive. If you have the means to keep copies of your data in external media (CD's, DVD's, hard disks) you can re-install the operating system by choosing first to erase the hard drive. Otherwise, you can still re-install with the "Archive" option which will keep your personal data. I have never used it so I cannot guide you more in this, but you may find this article useful.

Regarding #4, check out tip number four, fourth example, here: http://www.maclife.com/article/featu...ek_should_know

It's a single-line command using Terminal which switches the Safari default from opening in a new window to opening in a new tab. I was fairly hesitant to try this at first, but gave it a shot and it's worked like a charm as that was my biggest annoyance in Safari and is no more.
