Weird error in Jag

Hey ppl... I got the first error ever in my Jag. I was trying to empty the trash of a Zip disk and then I get this error:

"You need to restart your computer. Press the Power button for a few seconds or press the Restart button."

It says that in English, French, German and I think either Chinese or Japanese.

This really scares me... Ive never had any errors in Jag before, especially not when empyting the trash. If anyone can help me with this I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in advance,

PiBO2k2

    That's a kernel panic.

It means your system has failed in a very low level and cannot be recovered. You must restart.

Congratulations. Some people never get to see that screen.

I had a problem with getting one whenever I emptied the trash. I narrowed it down to one file, which was the OS X Beta of Snood. It had something to do with that file that was in the trash and Norton, I guess Norton 7 has caused several people to get KPs when emptying the trash.

I get a kernel panic, every time I unplug the Belkin USB IR Module.

Tested it on a few machines too, cr*ppy thing! People don't buy one!

I've gotten that screen at least 5 times in the past 60 days. Do I need to run or Norton Disk Doctor ? I have a 600 Mhz iBook. I'll have to pay attention when it happens again and what I was doing i guess.

I have the exact same problem. I hate my Belkin KVM with a passion.

Your problem sounds like bad RAM. If you upgraded your RAM, remove the upgraded DIMM and see if the problem subsides. If so, contact your vendor for a replacement.

    If someone know what is SUM Tools, you're a real geek <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

Back when I was using OSX beta, and then OSX I had kernel panics all the time and then I figured out what it was.

    Lack of hard drive space.

Simple lack of hard drive space, caused by printing real big documents in Classic programs. The file would get huge, the computer would crash, and when I restarted the file would still be there, usually in some 'temporary items/501/temp' folder heirarchy, the root of which was invisible.

I use Gregs Browser a lot to figure this out. At the time, I believe I have OS 9 on a separate partition so I could boot into it if things went sour.

That is one thing I dislike strongly about OS X. It doesn't tell you if the hard drive is getting full.

i usually expereinced kernel panics when i am accessing some terminals in my school network. Whenever it takes a long time to mount a network, I am scared. this is usually the time when the dreaded screen appears. hate it.
