iRail apps question

hi I am thinking about downloading this awesome app. the reviews i've read are really good. I am going on vacation to Europe this summer so i want to see if this app will benefit me. Does anyone know if this use internet connection? also, with ATT provider, should i sign up for international coverage for the time being so i can use the phone? also, i am assuming iphone from the US works over in europe as well..



please advise.
