Now that I'm getting my 15" Macbook Pro in May 2009, I'm wondering what kind of gizmo do I have to buy so that I could transfer my digital photos from my SecureDigital memory card onto my new macbook pro? As I understand it, the macbook pros don't have a slot for memory cards built into them, so I might have to use a USB-type of gizmo for this. If so, how much does it cost?

Yes ... USB ... they can be had all day long for 19.95 USD, or on sale at Fry's, etc for less than 10.00 USD.

Thanks, but what kind of usb gizmo is this that lets me use my sd memory card with the macbook pro? Can you name it, please? We don't have a Fry's store in our area - we have a Best Buy store, in fact, 2 of them.

Many different brands. Ultimately, it's a USB plug with a short cord and a small plastic part on the other end with a slot for the card. Go to BB and look in the same area as the memory cards... in fact, some memory cards are packaged with a USB card-reader.

In a MacBook Pro you could also get a ExpressCard reader provided your ExpressCard slot is free. That way the reader would be hidden inside the MacBook and generally be flush on the outside.

They may cost more, but its harder to loose and if your very portable it makes your MacBook Pro flush, making it easy to take in out and of your notebook bag without always having to unmount the SD Card.

A USB card reader, or an ExpressCard card reader. There are a million of them to choose from and they are all basically the same.

You mean, I could buy this reader, stick it inside my macbook pro and then forget about it (until I want to take the reader back out again)? Do they sell them at Best Buy? How much does it cost? Can you post a photo of what this would look like when stuck inside the macbook pro? Can you please post a photo of the ExpressCard reader?

EDIT - I'm back; I've just checked the apple store at www.apple.com for the specs on the 15-inch macbook pro that I've got my eyes on, and its specs include a ExpressCard/34 slot. Exactly where is this on the 15-inch macbook pro that has the 512 MB video card (this I have my eyes on)?
