10.1 --->10.1.5

My friend has a Ti book, it came pre installed with 10.1, he never bothered to update to 10.1.1 or .1.2 or .1.3 as they came out(he didn't need to, he doesn't use his computer enough to warrant that)

so recently we've been having network problems, he cannot connect to our schools firewall file sharing system, he also is having problems checking his network email and basically communicating with any other of the PCs on the network. I was stumped as to what the solution might be, I figured....hmmm, maybe if you upgrade to 10.1.5? so we download the updater(combo updater to go from 10.1.X -> 10.1.5) also at the same time we got iTunes 3, because he was having a problem with iTunes as well(that I remember reading was fixed in v.3)

Sooooo He gets the System updater, and double clicks on it, and it opens the installer program, but the installer program says he needs to update the installer program in order to install  what the hell is that?! its ridiculous. Now he can't use iTunes because iTunes 3.0 requires OS 10.1.4 or greater!

whats going on here?

he's going to be getting Jaguar eventually, but he didn't want to do it at the moment cause its too pricey, he's going to wait till break.

I'm sure jaguar will solve most if not all of his issues, but until then he'd REALLY like to be able to use iTunes and if he could get the networking issues solved that would be great too.

does anyone have any input as to whats up?

I'm asking for my friend, because he's not a big computer buff, he has his titanium and has been a mac user since lke 1988 or something, but he's still not terribly big on computers.

thanks in advance

Wow. I have the same problem on a Beige G3/233 that is running 10.1.1 or whatever, and cannot be updated. I run the updater updater, but it still will not install, and has caused me not to be able to update much of the software on it. If anyone CAN provide insight on it, I would greatly appreciate it. I would simply install Jaguar, but it is a Rev. 1 Beige, and will not boot up to the cd. (And I have tried installing Jag. on my Beige 300, but it still will not boot it up) So, ya.

yeah, the Installer application (in Applications/Utilities) is too old to run the 10.1.5 Combo update. here's a couple links:

    <a href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120072&amp;SaveKCWindowURL=http: %2F%2Fkbase.info.apple.com%2Fcgi-bin%2FWebObjects%2Fkbase.woa%2Fwa%2FSaveKCToHomePa ge&searchMode=Expert&kbhost=kbase.info.apple.com&s howButton=false&randomValue=100&showSurvey=false&s essionID=anonymous|159984414" target="_blank">Installer update</a>

And try this one because Apple says to use this instead of the Installer update.

    <a href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120136"; target="_blank">Security Update for 10.1</a>

For whatever reason if the links don't work, the Applecare document numbers for those are 120072 and 120136, respectively, so you can go to Apple's site and search by that number.

I have had the same problem way back and somebody here helped me fix it, Actually I think it was zoe. You have to do it in sequences. Start with the next available security update then the update itself. Example: From 10.1 you would use the 10.1.3 installer updater

Then this - it includes the security updater. (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosxcomboupdate_10_1_3.html)

    Next this

    Then This

    And that should do it.
