A great article that explains why contracts, an old business model and fear are holding back what technology could easily deliver today. The article claims it will take a decade for these contracts to unwind and allow companies to offer what people get so easily off torrents today.

Thoughts?

The iTunes for movies is - iTunes. You know that you can rent movies there, right? What the author is asking for is longer iTunes rentals, and I agree (36 hours would be way better than 24, and Apple has way too few rental movies available).

    Simple

    1) No consistent file standards

    2) Too much DRM.

    3) No import/export rights for your media.
