How did Aplle test the first iPhone pre launching

Hi all

I am new here and I am wondering if anyone knows an answer to my question.

For an work I zhave to write I should know how Apple tested the iPhone before it was officially available.

Of cours I think they did some internal tests.

But did they test the phoen with potential customers as well?

Were would I find more information on Apples testing procedures before they lauinch a new product?
