I have an external harddrive hooked up to my Airport and an iMac at home. I was wondering if I would be able to set it up so that I could access that harddrive from wherever I am with an internet connection with my macBook pro.
There's an option in the AirPort Setup utility that will allow this.
Open AirPort Utility. Select your Airport. Select "Disks" icon. Select "File Sharing". You should then see lots of options, including sharing over WAN and internet.
I actually saw that - I selected WAN sharing. I connected elsewhere, but didn't see my drive there -i'm guessing I have to take an extra step here but I'm not sure what step to take. Any pointers?
Did you select the option about using "bonjour" ? ... If not, you might need to actually know the IP address of your router and use the "Connect to Server" option from the "Go" menu in the finder.

That was indeed the answer. You just need the WAN option on, and from there you can access things with the "Connect To Server"! Yay!

I would guess "No" to both questions.
