Why can't I upgrade 10.2.3 onto same hard drive?

I get this message when I tried to upgrade to 10.2.3.

Do I need to have the updater on another volume and burn it onto a CD?

"You cannot install this software on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."

Do you have the right updater? Aren't there separate ones that go from 10.2.0 to 10.2.3 a step at a time, and a combo updater that goes straight to 10.2.3. ?

Have you tried doing a software update via the system preferences rather than downloading the updaters manually, to ensure everything that is needed is installed, and everything is installed in the correct sequence?

Do you have enough free disk space?

I think you're right. I was trying to upgrade from 10.2 right tho 10.2.3 using the basic upgrade as opposed to the Combo upgrade that has all the incremental updates.

Damn, and all that time spent downloading that 50+ mb file!

Oh well, I'll download the combo one and see if it works.

    thanks for both your input
