why is it that for example, i get a dialog that shows me 3 options, save/cancel/don't save, and it is not possible to shift between them with the cursor, i have to use the mouse.
Take a look at the System Prefs pane "Keyboard" and look in the "Full Keyboard Access" tab. I believe this is what you want. The bottom section is what controls the tab-to-control behavior.
Most, if not all, apps will have the following shortcuts, as well:
Don't Save - Command-D
Cancel - Escape</strong><hr></blockquote>
i find that command-d isn't necessary for many programs' don't save; d works alone. sometimes 'n' works too (as in, "No save"). sometimes 's' (for save), and 'y' (for yes) work for affirmative answers.
also, i think it varies, per app, which items will be tabbable. for example, in safari, only text boxes seem to be tabbable; tho one might expect the various buttons ('add reply', 'url', ..) to be available.
