...with an iPod touch?

What if the AppleTV was built-into the iPod Touch.

You might need the HDMI dock with a remote control.

But if you could plug the touch into a TV, run "FrontRow" and get most of the AppleTV functionality, the ability to hire movies and watch them immediately on your TV and so on.

Technically, that looks very possible for the next iteration of the device. It already supports standard def playback.

Would FrontRow on the touch (or the iPhone) result in more movies being hired or bought?

I personally wouldn't like that scenario. At home I want a dedicated device that will hook into what eventually will be a Home Theatre setup. I think the current Apple TV is too rinky dinky as it is. Apple could/should have made it a little larger and more of a neutral color if not black.

Since the Apple TV doesn't require a screen other than your TV I see it eventually becoming an iPod Touch in a box anyways though I'm not looking for it being overly small (making it easy to steal or fall behind the other equipment).

It also needs to become more savvy about networking with other devices like NAS and streaming content.

I don't really get the name AppleTV anyway - it's very misleading. AppleTV provides you with no more the ability to watch, schedule and record TV as your toaster. Would you like butter on your ToasterTV?
