hi...just got an advc100 off ebay to use with my macbook. my understanding is that with a firewire connection, you don't have to have the power adaptor, and it didn't come with an adapter. but when i plug the firewire into my mac and push the power button, nothing happens.

so my questions are...

--might i have the wrong firewire (and if so, would it plug into my computer/the converter okay, which it does?)

--was i wrong to think you don't need an adapter if you have the firewire?

--since i haven't plugged any of my analog devices into the converter, could that be why it's not turning on?

any help much appreciated!

no. though the user manual--which i do have--says nothing about needing software and doesn't include it in the original package.

Then I would suggest that you connect an analogue source and fire up whatever program you're going to do your capture in and see what you get.

You might also try a restart while everything is hooked up.
