Help with preorder

Today I preordered an 16gb iphone 3gs. They told me I had to wait 7-14 days for it to come in. I thought if you preorder the iphone, you could get it at launch. Why do I have to wait? Do you think if I wait in line on the day of the launch, will I be able to purchase one if they are in stock? Or will I now just have to wait for my preorder to come in?

    I did the very same thing with the original iPhone. I cancelled my order and went into the store and picked one up. Apple Stores will have plenty. However, if they already charged your card then it'll be like 5 days until they return the money. I know, f***ing stupid! I hate how they can charge your card IMMEDIATELY but cannot return your money IMMEDIATELY! I cancelled my order within 12hrs or so of placing it too. I hope they haven't charged you yet.

    No, they told me they would not charge me until either it arrived at ATT or when I go to pick it up. Thanks for helping me out.
