We are a small but growing family business, we have been pc users since they began but have constantlly had problems with them,I am thinking of making the switch and overhalling the whole system to Mac. I am looking at the Mac pro as the Server (Everyone seems to tell me as a business server windows is better),about three Imacs and a Macbook pro and a normal macbook. Are they worth the investment in terms of reliablity and freezing etc. The other problem which I have and have always had is finding the right business software solutions, and which Mac programs can help me do the following 1. I need a good Email program that the entire network can use ie if i reply to an email from our generic email not our personal folders and another worker sees it marked off and can see the email I have sent. 2. Is Myob a good database to use and are there any better ones for a small manufacturing business 3. I also need a good group emailing program to work off my databse. I hope some one can give some easy advice as I have been racking my brain trying to make the right descision.

For the reliability question, I think you should be OK. As far as there is no faulty hardware (like bad memory), OS X is very stable, down from the lowest end notebook up to the highest end server.

For the software solutions you ask for, I cannot tell anything. Probably someone else here could guide you on this.

I am considering moving my business pcs over to the mac platform.

Go to an Apple store and talk to a business representative there. They have sales persons at most retail stores that deal specially with small businesses. They can help you with advice.

Welcome to AI! Hope we can help you out, or at least send you in the right direction.

Have you checked out Apple's site? They have lots of stuff:

    Point of Sale Stuff:

    Database:

Check out Filemaker (an Apple family)

Of course, there is iWork which is a great bargain:

There's tons of stuff. As for the server, I'll let others chime in on that. I know some server farm companies actually use Mac Minis. For the price, you could have one online and a backup just in case.

The Apple Store not only has the sales staff ready for small business, but you can also get One to One training cheap to bring you up to speed fast.

Another place to look for app training is http://www.lynda.com/ .
