Disconnecting a mirrored RAID array from it's setup computer.

Guys-

I can't seem to get an answer on this anywhere online or from anyone I know.

I have a triple redundant 1TB FW800 mirrored raid array housing all my data set up on my about to be defunct G5 machine. Runs great no problems.

I'm upgrading to a new machine and want to move the raid to the new machine. What will happen when I disconnect the raid and move it to the new machine?

My OS is current and Raid is 2.0. Is the directory and volume information stored on the drives or, as someone has told me, in the host machine firmware? I'm just afraid I'll lose the raid when I move to the new machine.

Any insight on this scenario would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

A

If you're triple redundant in RAID-1... just take a drive out of the current array and use it as a standalone drive in the new machine. What's the worst that could happen?

It sounds like you're running software RAID in OS X. But I'm not sure what RAID 2.0 means.
