Politcal statements in OSX!

Tonight I got bored so I took a look at the symbol table of the mach kernel and found 2 very interesting entries:

00090b30 a MakeSureThatNoTerroristsCanHurtUsByGod

00091704 a ProtectTheAmericanWay

These were found in the 10.2.4 kernel. If anybody wants to see for themselfs, do the following:

Open a terminal window

Execute the command: nm /mach.sym |more

You will have to press the spacebar a few times

I wonder how popular OSX is in Iraq??

They are in the 10.1.5 kernel as well.

However, Mach is maintained by (from memory) Carnegie-Mellon University, NOT Apple.

And Uni Students are intensly political.

What do terrorists who attack US targets have to do with Iraq, praytell?

Mach is darwin and darwin is Apple.

Edit: By mach I mean the kernel used in OS X, it is based on Mach 2.0 and 3.0 which were developed at CMU, but the Darwin Mach&BSD kernel is now maintained by Apple.

If you ever chance to have enough time to look up symbols in all the apps on your computer, you are going to be really surprised.

I remember someone in Microsoft's MBU discovering an internal function call whose name was basically <long stream of epithets>Microsoft.

    Made my day.

I feel lame enough just 'cause I read these forums regularly ....

I can't imagine what it must be like to have so much dead time (read : no life) that I'd even consider browsing through code to see what messages from satan might pop up !

...or maybe I'm jealous that you have that much free time to yourself.
