Hi Guys,

New to the forum and a lot of good stuf on here.

I was wondering if the G4-800Mhz eMac (USA) would work in Europe. The reason for asking is i am purchasing the new 24" iMac on Monday and I want to ship my older (but perfectly working) eMac over to the UK so my dad can use it.

Any help would be appreciated

Andrew

Hi Andrew, most Macs are auto switching...unfortunately the eMac is not and requires a up/down transformer to be able to be used in other countries other than its original origin.

That answers that. Thanks for the reply.

I have had my emac apart a few times to increase the processor speed and change the CD to a DVD-R and change to a larger HDD so taking this baby apart is a breeze. does anyone have any info on where I can change the preset so I can swap it to 220V?

    Best Regards

    Andrew

When you open up the emac the analogue power board is pretty obivous, it has the power socket mounted on it. The last time I looked it there was a big 3 pin header with a yellow wire joining two of the pins, and I think that moving the wire to the other pin would change the accepted input voltage. I cant remember if it was marked on the board. You will just have to have a look [ take all appropriate precautions when working with mains level voltages ].

    Two problems are:

    a) Its not clear that the emac power supply will actually work at the other voltage ( although it is nothing unusual ).

    b) You wont be able to test it easily.
