What happens when your purchase turns obsolete?

I was just wondering how the Apple system works for people who've invested in an expensive Mac, once a couple years have gone by and Apple has made a dozen upgrades to that product, can you trade your old one in for some sort of discount, or would you have to pay full price for the newer model?

Thanks~

Can you name any other big-brand computer companies that do this?

The normal solution is to sell your old computer on eBay.

no problem man, but also don't worry. It will take more than a couple years to make these machines obsolete. Mine is a year old and it still feels like I got it yesterday (except for that complete awe of having your first mac with OS X on it...lol).

Also Macs fetch a pretty good price, no matter the age.
