Woo-hoo! Here are a few pics of my new 20" Cinema Display! I ordered it Tuesday morning and it arrived today (Thursday) about 1pm. So far I am VERY impressed, especially by the brightness. Everytime I walk into the room I can't get over how much it lights up the entire room!

If you have any questions about the display, packaging, ordering, etc., feel free to ask!

Oh, I also tossed up my pics from MWSF if you're interested. Enjoy!!

Just out of curiosity, where'd you order from? That was mighty quick.

Hooooooooooo!! You lucky dog!! Sweet, sweet, sweet.

I went to CompUSA here in Concord to check the 20 display and to test drive the new 12" PowerBook. No luck, they don't have either yet.

I'm getting one myself to go with my future 12" PowerBook. It's time to replace my G4 350 Tower.

I purchased the display at the Apple Store Online on Tuesday morning.

I took the pics with a Canon PowerShot G2. Sorry, they aren't the greatest. I just set it to auto to get the shots up quick. For examples of better shots, check out some of my other pics from the links at the top of the page.

You may want to rethink that. If I remember the 12" does 1600 max and the 20" is more pixels than that. I'd at least see it working at a store before you buy.

Mmmm, you are right! The 20" display supports 1680 by 1050 pixels (optimum resolution), 1280 by 800 pixels and 1024 by 640 pixels while the 12-inch PowerBook supports up to 1600 by 1200 pixels on an external display. Arghhhhh, 80 pixels too shy. This sucks, I wanted to replace my desktop tower with the PowerBook so as to have a single Mac for both desktop and portability with a widescreen display for the desktop mode. There goes my plans. I hate having two comps, continuously sinking my files between my G4 and iBook is a pain. Oh why, oh why did Apple have to make the 20" display incompatible with the 12" PowerBook!

Well, if you're willing to spend $200 more I think the 22" Cinema displays are floating around for $1500, and they run at 1600x1200 I think.

I guess it's worth giving it a try in store to see if it will work. 1680 by 1050 is less than 1600 by 1200 in terms of the total number of pixels. I'm not sure whether resolutions supported by graphics cards are fixed or whether the horizontal and vertical resolutions can be arbitrary so long as the total number of pixels doesn't exceed the maximum supported.

I don't think that's right, that the powerbook would have a locked aspect ratio limit for the alternate monitor. It will have enough VRAM to run a 20" screen millions collors simultaneously, and a 20" screen has less pixels than the pbook's max rez. Alternatively the Formac 20" screen is another option.

RosettaStoned: That's a nice new display. Say, is that a 12-inch PowerBook included as a bonus in the second picture?

It's a real shame that the 12-inch PowerBook doesn't have DVI out. Judging from all the feedback about that, I am hoping that Rev.B of the 12-inch PowerBook will feature DVI out so that you can hook it up to the 20" ACD with the $100 Apple DVI-to-ADC adapter instead of the $300 Gefen VGA-to-ADC adapter.

Not to be picky, but can you post some images with an open image in photoshop with all the palletes? I'd like to get a better sense of the screen real estate. An image that's 8.5" X 11" in BOTH portrait and landscape mode will do nicely, thank you very much!
