pb g4 12" doesn't want to read dvdrs anymore

so i can burn a dvdr using toast and it will complete and verify fine, but as soon as that's finished, the drive refuses to accept the disc (or os x won't mount it) and it gets rudely spitted out

my current batch of discs are tdk so i would've thought the quality is ok. also this seems to apply to my older burnt discs. i took a disc to work today and it read fine on a different machine so it seems that it's my drive's fault

any suggestion before i make use of my applecare?

thanks

no - i didn't think disk utility had any features for this kind of problem... especially since the disks won't mount

no, i don't think there's ever been an update for the drive... but i'll check

yes. and the discs that are now not working are all disks that were working in the past

can disk utility "see" the DvD?

can disk utility see the media itself, not the volume on it ?
