default 'From' address in Mail?

When writing a new email, I find I'm often accidentally sending it from the wrong alias. Mail seems to default to the last alias used, and I usually forget to check which one is being used. Is there any way of setting a default 'main' address to send from which can be changed if necessary?

AFAIK, Mail defaults to the topmost account in your list.

Mr. Me is correct for when you send a new message when you have no other message selected.

If you have an email message selected, mail will default to the email used in that message if it's different than your normal default.

You can set the default address in the preferences. Go to the "Compose" section and there in the middle of the dialog box it is.
