That's probably because the Caddy is built on a Corvette platform, and there's no back seat.
The Cadillac Sixteen has a back seat. The thing is almost 20 foot long, 5 ft longer than the Vette, and GM had to mock it up using a truck platform. How in the world is a 13.6 liter V16 engine going to fit into a Vette anyways?
See the back seats in this image?
I maintain that the Cad looks better simply by not looking like the fruit of an unholy union between a bland, late model Rolls and a Volvo truck. That's not to say it looks great, but it at least looks like the same designer was responsible for the whole thing.
Cadillac Sixteen = American techno-luxury
Rolls Royce Phantom = British retro-stately
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - I like the Sixteen - but at least the Phantom is a real car while the Sixteen is just a concept vehicle for now.
Sardonic moment: Wow! This sort of feels like talking about a super-duper Apple Power Mac G5 machine. Talking about things we can never have...
I agree with Tacojohn. I really like the new Phaeton and the updated A8. I would personally go with the Audi because I don't really like the rear end styling on the VW and also simply for brand name recognition as a luxury car. I also like the new BMW 7 Series. Yes, I said that I like the 7 Series. The styling is bold and it actually grows on you. The front of the car is beautiful and the only issue seems to be the the "Bangle-butt" rear end which I like and thing that it looks better than the Phaeton's back side. I like the MB S Class, however, it's a bit too flashy and almost even gaudy for my tastes. However I would probably still buy one if I had the money, it just wouldn't be my first choice.
Inspite of the slightly retro appearence the new Phantom incorporates a huge number of leading edge technologies. The chassis is very similar to the construction of the Aston Martin Vanquish!

Ah, rats, got my Cads mixed up. They're also rolling out a Vette-based car.

Except that my principle complaint with the Phantom's design is that it doesn't look British or retro. It looks like a half-hearted riff on British design by Freightliner.

So is the Vette-platformed Caddy.
Not that it matters, since as you point out, it's not like any of them will affect our buying decisions.
Okay, the RR doesn't look great, but no way in Hell does the Cadillac look any better. In fact it looks much worse in my eyes. I could at least imagine myself being chauffered around in the RR.

Maybe that's the point... The Sixteen is an ultra-luxury car you just might want to drive...

The release of the Phantom "VI" is truly a sad event for the automotive world. This is what people worried about when Ford bought Jaguar. They feared that the foreigners would take over and have no concept of what British design was all about. This has now happened with Rolls-Royce. Luckily Bentley and Jag don't seem to be going down the same path as RR; at least for now.
The sixteen is 20ft long, huh. Wow that's big. I guess that's the idea, though.
Anyway, If the engineers could bring the car down to 17ft or even 18ft, which is a bit more managable on the road, it would be a more interesting offer. Even if, god forbid, the displacement had to go down a few liters.
first of all if you want to talk about the 300,000 Price range then the Bentley (my personal Fave), The Rolls Royce and the Maybach... Next the 16 is amazing... I can't wait to see it this weekend, and the MG just looks like an eclipse on ecstasy...
I love the Phantom - better than the Silver Saraph, and if I could afford it I would get the new Phantom convertible coming out next year. I also love the Bently, Aston Martin, Masarati, Alfa Romeo, Volvo, Audi A8 W12 (although VW makes crappy cars, and has horrible customer service), and Land Rover (ditto - super crappy reliability).
I hate the Meybach (although in the dark color above it looks a lot better than in light colors), BMW 7 series, Mercedes S-class (esp now that they have horrible bumps around the wheel wells), and all American cars. There are a few BMWs and Mercedes that don't suck, but they are few and far between in the model line ups (X5, 6-series, etc).

Or the curvy Jags.

As I am positive that I will win the next 200 mill+ powerball.
Seriously, this is THE car to have, McLaren F1
On second thought, Satan's hot-rod Lincoln is better looking
Or maybe they were going for the "Thunderbirds" look?

It's a great read.

ושרון ינצח
It is very large and very brash ...but it is a REAL Rolls-Royce.
By the way, it is not a Phantom VI -- technically speaking it is a Phantom VII -- the Phantom VI ceased production in 1992.
The Maybach is a beautiful car but lacks real character and style.
