Reasons for NOT buying a current model MacBook?

in Current Mac Hardware edited January 2014
howdy all,

my mother is thinking of getting a MacBook after X-mas. Are there any reasons why she shouldnt do so? The current MacBooks look incredible (absolute monsters in a portable set up!), but im a little out of the loop at the moment. So are there any weak points to it?

And is the higher 2Ghz model strongly recommended over it's cheaper little brother?

i guess i just want the dirt on this model (if there is any - personally, im hoping there isn't)

thank you!

What if the guys mum doesn't do anything that requires great graphics, just because the MacBook does not a have a proper graphics card is not a reason to go pro.

If she isn't going to be anything heavy on a graphics and would like a small portable notebook, the MacBook is great. If good graphics is needed i would consider going pro.

Unless your mom is some kind of super-gamer, then the MacBook is a superb computer. I have the first generation and it blows my 12" Aluminum PB away.

Joe, are you the same Joe that posts at DSLR, always about the exact same thing - namely the video card not being SLI?

As I said, my wife has a 2GHz and loves it. It looks great, it's the right size and the screen is awesome. As for the graphics, unless your mom is into player real heavy games, she won't notice the lack of a video card. The wife's machine does great with video playback (mostly news on the Net, so I admit it is low resolution) and iChat AV. She also uses it for light video editing and maintaining her own homepage. Most of the kinks have been worked out of the MacBook.

There may be something new at MWSF in two weeks, but it likely won't be on sale until Feb or Mar, and then may have some kinks to work out before it is worth buying.

Get her the MB; she will be happy.

    Macbook=Best computer in the World

Combine it with an Airport Express and you can print wirelessly AND use Airtunes.

    Sync your Settings on .Mac

    Sync your Camera with iPhoto

Sync your Video Camera with iMovie HD

    Sync your iPod with iTunes

Playback ALL of your Media in Frontrow

Sync your Phone with Address Book and iCal over Bluetooth

    It's Small, Lightweight, and compact

It has a Magsafe power cord

It has a built in iSight Camera

Best Part: It uses Mac OS X

Yes, your Mother may not have a Camera or a Bluetooth enabled phone, or even care for most of this, and she likely will not get a .Mac subscription if her current Email service is fine, though I rather like it myself, but the mere fact that a Macbook does all of this is the reason I say the Macbook is the best computer in the world. The only thing missing is a Backlit Keyboard like the one on the Macbook Pros...

I'm sure she will be very happy with a new Macbook. Keep in mind Macworld is in January, and that means an update to iLife 07. Might make a nice After Christmas Present if she does indeed end up using the iLife suite for any of that.

I've owned a 3400, a Lombard, a Titanium, an Aluminum and now a MacBook, which currently has the most video memory of any of my prior 'Books. This absolutely absurd notion that the video in the MacBook, because it's integrated, sucks, really needs to stop.

I thought that I was going to install BootCamp and constantly go back to XP, but I honestly haven't in months. I do not play games on the Mac, and to be honest I've done plenty of other more exciting things. Buy Aperture :-)
