Smart Phones for Macs ?

We are trying to find the best smart phone for Mac users that require an international GSM phone.

How important is wi-fi to a smart phone and is it available in Europe? Windows Mobile 5 vs Palm - which is better for Mac use - even with the missing sync? Do we think that Apple will have its own smart phone in a few years?

    Although Sprint is not GSM the phone itself is awesome....I am considering the BlackBerry Pearl for the GSM service with T Mobile...this works well in Europe as would an unlocked Treo. I already have the Palm Desktop, and if I switch to the Pearl, I have to transfer all data to the Blackberry applications, which are not as MAC friendly.
