Maybe a dumb question, but I don't understand this whole xserve thing. What exactly is the difference between the xserve and the xserve raid?

The XServe is an actual computer, while the XServe RAID is simply a piece of equipment that houses hard drives. Think of the XServe as your desktop G4, and the XServe RAID as an external hard drive. A really big external hard drive.

    Xserve. It's Xserve.

It's been out how long now? And people still don't know the name?

Looking at the stuff on the Apple site, it seems to me that the Xserve RAID is actually two RAIDs in one box, 7 drives on each. If true, that really kind of sucks, and means that you can't do a RAID set larger than 7 drives or use a hot spare drive across controllers.

Anyone know if this is correct?
