Former PC User Needs Purchasing Advice
I have been using an IBM laptop furnished by my boss for the past year. I am giving him back this laptop tomorrow as I have since moved on to a different job.
I want to purchase a Macintosh laptop ASAP because I really need one to pass time at work. I would only really use it for the internet, photos, and word programs, so I don't need a super speed machine. I could go with a new or used model, but I'd probably have to take out a loan to be able to afford either right now.
I would like to get advice on the following:
1) Best places to purchase a laptop. Someplace where you can get a deal and/or help with financing would be nice.
2) The best type of laptop for my situation. Take into account that I don't need all the bells and whistles, just something that can run the internet on a wireless card well.
Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Other options include the Amazon Apple store and MacMall. Every once and awhile they can have some pretty good deals. If you can watch it closely, the refurbished products page has some good deals, but they sell fairly quickly!
Is Ebay an option for you?
And definitely go with a MacBook. Good luck with your decisions!
internet and Word user eh? youre not going to like the fact that you wont be able to download 50% of the porn out there on a Mac
And I will be using this computer at work 100% of the time, so I don't think I'll be looking for porn.

Umm... I don't want to make fun of your financial situation, because I am 28 and have been living off my parents/ government for the past 2 years.
But umm, re-read those three quotes above, and umm... something not right, no?
Don't turn into a Mac hippie. It's relaxing and cool and what not, but probably not where you need to be at. Trust me, I've been there.
Get a good paying job, get one of the latest MacBooks and run Windows(Parallels) and Mac OSX.4 on financing, and get back in the flow, Mac professional style... not Mac hippie. 8)
MacMall had 17 inch MBP with all the fixin's for 1900$
oh hell no, you'll be surfing porn when you get home and yous gonna be disappointed when most of them damn no good Win Player movies dont work none

Why do you come onto every single thread and bitch about porn?
Pretty desperate.
and inaccurate given that windows media plays on the mac anyway and 50% is way off.
Anyway, in this situation, I'd seriously think about the powerbook G4 but it really depends on how serious the work is. For your average email checking etc and no requirement for say video encoding then the powerbook is ok.
The Macbook is good because it has two processors (is really 4-5x faster than a G4), magnetic cord and Intel-based (so you can run Windows if needed).
The powerbook is good because it has a nice silver case and the best keyboard Apple has ever designed, though the MB keyboard is also nice. It also has a matte screen, which I prefer to the glossy MB screen.
The ibook G4 is good because it is cheap but the build quality is not that great.
He's bitter beacause he doesn't get any action.
you my friend are always on the computer so when do u get any action? nerdvana

Now that's just uncalled for.

I know, buts its true....no national medical plan here. If you injure yourself, you go straight to a county hospital, sit and wait with the non insured (they smell and look great) fill out a form stating no insurance, how much you make, etc. And 5 hours later an Intern will see you.
