Front Row 2.0?
To me it looks like Front Row 2.0 could be less bloated, judging by the demo of iTV's interface @ Showtime. The reason I care is I think Front Row is very prone to crashing and disappearing, you can literally hear the computer working overtime before it crashes. I try to go through the menus slowler to stop this happening. I hope iTV is not like this. Front Row 2.0 needs is half the weight of 1.0. Maybe Core Animation could help solve this problem and these issues, which they probably will be using to make the interface, but will Front Row 2.0 be much smaller and lighter as a result? And will these issues occur on peoples TV's the whole time?

I'm not sure what there is to discuss. It's pretty obvious Front Row will change significantly in the future, but right now, Front Row is not important enough of a feature for it to really matter. The problem with speculation here is that it's going to be in context with the current system, which in reality, it won't be. I'm not sure I'm making sense.

That sounds like a problem with a QuickTime component.

Hi Ireland, agree with you on this one. Front Row chokes on my iTunes library, and is prone to general weirdness ('you are not authorized to play this song' message on unprotected tracks). Granted my library is close to 900GB, but even when loading just the playlists it can take forever.

No, I rip into Apple lossless. And I have 40,000 songs, 110 days.

Even if you listened to 100 songs a day...it would take you more than a year to listen to your entire library.
Why not remove the songs you never listen to?
Here's to hoping Front Row 2.0 doesn't require apps to be open to access the libraries of music or photos.
I agree.

Ah, I only ripped one song into Apple Losless before. Mainly as a comparison, in AAC it was around 4 MB and in Apple Lossless it was easily 5x that.

Well I do have the rest of my life to listen...
I guess I don't really want to remove them, because there's that weird, obsessive reason people build collections. Thing is, I've been collecting CDs since 1985, and I'm in the music biz and a musician. So believe it or not, 80% of this library is stuff that actually means something to me.
On a tech note, all my tunes are stored on a networked xRAID, so there's no local drive penalty. And I figured if I ripped them lossless, I could always compress them from there if necessary. But looking towards the future, I figured drives are always getting bigger and cheaper, so why worry about the size now.
