Purchasing Advice For External DVDRW

I want to get my friend a external USB DVD burner for b-day, he use a MAC book laptop and also a Windows desktop computer. When Im researching for which model to buy I noticed "ALL" the burner supported WinXP/2k but none of them say MAC OSX. So does that mean MAC can support all USB burners natively? Whats a good burning software used under the MAC OS. Anyone have any suggestions on which external burner to buy?

    i would think it would...i dont have mac or never had but mac brags about being able to plug stuff in and use it
