From <a href="http://www.macminute.com"; target="_blank">MacMinute.com</a> [quote] In addition to games that have recently begun shipping, Mac game developers and publishers alike are working overtime in order to get the latest games on store shelves in time for the holidays, or shortly thereafter. id Software recently announced that its WWII-era, first-person shooter, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, is in the final stages of development for Mac OS X and expects to make it available by Christmas. Westlake Interactive, meanwhile, is hard at work on a variety of games for OS 8/9 and Mac OS X, including Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, which has reached first playable status, and Civilization III, which is in the final stages of development, although work on the level editor is in early development and not expected to be included in the box. Westlake programmer Brad Oliver notes that the Mac OS X version of turn-based strategy game Civilization III will feature Quartz text rendering for easy reading, particularly on LCD displays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is scheduled to be released in December by Aspyr Media, while Civilization III is scheduled to be released in February 2002 by MacSoft.

So! What does everyone think of these new games coming out? Harry Potter is just avaliable a month or two after the Windows version and Civ 3, about 6 months <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

    Wolfenstein is such a quality game.

    ID managed to push team work even if you don't want it. The test's were a bit slow on my mac and I hope the final has some performance tweaks.

    Civ3 is like a dumbed down version of Alpha Centauri, but its still damn fun. RTCW... well... every one more or less admits that its fun at first but gets DAMN borring later on as nothing really changed (like Wolfenstein but without the... heart?).

    As for HP, well... any video game based on a movie based on a book is probably gonna suck, but as I havent played it I wont lay down any firm judgments yet.

    Dont feel bad though, the whole game industry is in a dry period. I cant beleive that I have nothign to play on my PC...

    Actually I just got/beat Alice, thats a DAMN fine game for any one who hasnt played it (dont let the demo fool you, the game is amazing and BEAUTIFUL).

    Is Sacrifice out for mac yet? Thats one of the best games Ive played this year.

    Heard a good one on the radio - You know you are getting old when you think that Harry Potter is the old guy that used to be in charge on MASH.

    Sacrifice is scheduled to ship Dec 7th. I'm anxiously awaiting my copy.

    Red Faction recently started shipping to people who pre-ordered it. It shipped without OS X support, but that will be coming sooner or later. Hopefully sooner.

    Escape Velocity: Nova has not set a release date, but most people are expecting a December release. Will be OS 7.5 -&gt; OS X compatible.

    Giants: Citizen Kabuto has been released, sans multiplayer which will be coming via download _sometime_. Let's hope it's soon. Single player is great and all... but has virtually no replay value and the AI is moronic. Hopefully Giants multiplayer will be excellent. I'm excited at least.

    Those are the games that I've enjoyed/am looking forward to. The most complete Future Release list I've ever found is at <a href="http://www.macgamer.com/features/futurereleases/index.php."; target="_blank">http://www.macgamer.com/features/futurereleases/index.php.</a>; They seem to have a handle on what's going on in mac gaming.

    After playing Civ 2 and SMAC, I can say that Civ 3 was a big letdown. All the kewl features of Alpha Centauri are gone.

    And 5 of your tanks can be taken out by a single pikeman.

    Sounds like I'll be looking for a copy of Alpha Centauri in the cheap bins instead. I just wish they'd put out a Carbon version. Ah well.

    Right now, the games I'm looking forward to are:

    * Clive Barker's Undying

    * Return to Castle Wolfenstein

    * Black & White

    * Neverwinter Nights

    ... and Carbonized versions of Unreal Tournament and Diablo II/Lord of Destruction.
