Final Cut Pro 3

Wow. FCP 3 just looks unbelievable. Real-time effects, transitions, and titling? can't get any better than that. and it scales apparantly very well for the real-time affects. Even my Powerbook G4 667 Mhz can now do real-time editing in FCP3. before this would have cost an additional 1000 dollars on top of a desktop and be impossible on a laptop.

OfflineRT looks great.

Now I just have to save up for the upgrade

I am thinking about asking my cousin to get the academic version for me.

The copy I use now is from the last company I worked but Apple refuesed to transfer the licence to my name....if I need the latest I have to pay the full price!

It's an incredible peice of kit. Can't wait to get hold of the upgrade. I can only imagine how well it will run on anyt dual proc machine over 1ghz . The colour correction and offline is great - the real time effects make it the best solution for editing at any price.

I've been going over the Apple info on FCP3 and it looks like the real-time effects are preview only on the desktop. Now that's great but it will no doubt require a render before going to tape. I hope im wrong about this because it's a truly remarkable product in so many ways.

the system requirements for fcp3 are interesting...

    [snip]

Final Cut Pro 3 requires Mac OS X v10.1.1 or Mac OS 9.2.2

    hmmm, i don't seem to have 9.2.2!

That's Apple's subtle way of telling you to upgrade to a Mac running OSX.

Well, both are the same(outside package, product number M8179Z/A) for the FCP 2. Now, I've seen the version 3 US$999 Retail package product number is M8562Z/A, and the US$299 academic package product number is M8563Z/A.

Some bad news for those of you who enjoy using your Contour Designs Shuttle Pro. I emailed asking if the drivers would be ready when I got my copy of FCP 3 in the mail (for X)... answer-

"We will not be showing OS X drivers until MacWorld in January 5 weeks from yesterday.

You can still use FCP 3 in 9.x but not in classic under OS X."

I am not mad at them or anything, but it does mean that I have to freak'n wait until Jan. to use FCP in X. They must have guessed or been told that FCP 3 was going to be out at Macworld... O well.

Run software update. Download. Install. Run FCP 3. Be happy you don't own a wintel. Ponder why you aren't in X.

Does anyone know if FCP 3 will allow for 24 frames per second editing?

    24fps is for film.

    DV NTSC still is 29.97fps

FCP does support 24fps editing. My question would be - "Are you doing offline editing of telecined film ? If you want to edit 24fps you should look at the <a href="http://www.auroravideosys.com"; target="_blank">Igniter card </a>. It does real-time pull down of 24fps material. It's doing real-time effects on SD - 8 bit material and you only need standard drives.

Many people are talked about FCP 3.0's inability to working with "Real RT" capability.

What if APPLE put DV decoding capability in every New Mac which is coming MWSF 2002 ?

Will it solve the problem ?
