Mac is excellent as a fresh change to Windows,

but why would you want to run Mac when most

software is compatible with Windows?

Because you prefer the operating system?

Because you don't have to worry about virusses and spamware on osX?

    Because you like apple hardware?

Because macs tend to "just work" i.e. driver issues, registry problems and crashes are very rare?

Because macs come with the excellent iLife suite?

Because most people who use macs really love using them (take a look around this forum!), which must have a reason?

Because lots of great quality software IS available for osX?

Because if you'd like you can also run windows on current Macs?

Because, in fact, you really want one, otherwise you wouldn't be asking your question?

Feel welcome, and just go Mac

Because most of the titles on Windows are terrible. Quantity doesn't equal quality.

    Stability. That's why.

If you work in the graphic arts, Photoshop and other hands-on programs demonstrate greater stability - this is one reason why Macs are industry standard.

It also makes more sense to run an Operating System which isn't as prone to hackers, viruses, trojan horses and other internet security problems. Have a look at how much brain drain your Windows computer suffers from, just by running anti-virus/system protection.

I don't know that most software is compatible with Windows only - I have no problem getting the programs/software that I need for Mac. What software are you referring to?

There isn't a single App that comes close to TextMate on Windows. There isn't a single App as brilliant as Yojimbo on Windows. There isn't a single Mail Client as Usable as Mail on Windows. There isn't as many Security Applications on Mac OS X as there are on Windows. There isn't a need to play rehashed First Person Shooters on Mac OS X as there is on Windows. There isn't a single App as well designed as Quicksilver on Windows.

Windows has more software, but only if you count the following factors:
    • Microsoft has created a buggy and unstable OS by trying to maintain compatibility with Applications from MS-DOS and never creating anything new

    • There is an endless number of First Person Shooters, Real Time Strategy, and MMOs on Windows, Consoles generally have more variety in terms of Genre, if not the sheer number of games, and not every gamer cares about the shiniest graphics

    • The Half A**ed Applications Microsoft created for Windows themselves, but really do a whole lot of nothing (Example: Micosoft Windows Address Book Anyone?)

    • The Thousands Upon Thousands of security threats that if you think about it, qualify as Software. This includes Viruses, Spyware, Adware, Rootkits, and Malware in general

    • The Gigantic Number of Popup Blockers and Spam Filters because none seem to do the job right

    • The Huge Number of simply unusable Applications

    • The fact that because of the Security Threat Software, there is a demand for Security Software
