Cannot see other computers on my network. Network tab also missing.

Hey everyone I've got an annoying problem here.

First on my finder window the network tab in the left column dissapeared.

2nd I can't add it back in when I try to drag it in there.

3rd the most annoying problem is that i have to go to the "go" drop down menu and then go to "network". When that opens up nothing happens. I can't see any computers on my network. Other computers on the network can see and login to my computer and transfer files just fine (mac or windows i have personal and windows file sharing on). I can't see mac or windows machines at all.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Running 10.4.8 PPC on 1.5 ghz 15 Inch PowerBook with latest security updates. All software is up to date. This has been an ongoing problem since before i've upgraded to 10.4.8.

Thanks.
