What about iPicture?

I remember hearing a rumor a long time ago on ThinkSecret that Apple was developing iPicture, a competitor for Photoshop Elements. What ever happened to that? Will Apple attack the photo editing market any time soon? They've already done the movie and music markets...

    I have been wondering about this also. I haven't seen anything substantive mentioned anywhere in months. Maybe Adobe wasn't too thrilled with the idea and talked Apple out of it... <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

    i seriously doubt Apple would risk pissing off Adobe. If Apple is doing an image editing program it will be more along the lines of GraphicConverter- a smaller less feature laden app.

    iPhoto probably won't see the light of day until Photoshop ships in a Native OS X version. If Adobe drags its feet developing or shipping Photoshop that would definitely slow the adoption rate for OS X, definitely not a plus for Apple (I have often wondered why Apple never bought Adobe given the natural overlap of their target markets).

    One possibility that could rearrange that thinking would be if iPhoto was a software "gateway" to a new Apple iDevice much like iTunes serves as the gateway between your Mac and your iPod. Apple wants to be in the gadget business and if they did have an "iCamera" it would go stale very quickly if they delayed the launch of the device (hence the accompanying software) to humor Adobe.

    i heard the other day that when they release the new imac, they will release an ipic, a new program to go with the iprograms. I heard it was mainly confirmed <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

    I suspect they'll just add to Image Capture and rename it, nothing at the level of a $100 app like elements. Auto-launch when cameras are connected, auto-import, basic image size and format changes, some simple touch-ups, upload to iTools, web page, printing, that's about it.

    Exactly. Speaking of Image Capture, man is that program sweet. I have a Kodak DC3400 and the software that came with it is total crap compared to Image Capture. It even rips the pics off the Camera 100x faster then Kodaks software.

    I think that this new iApp will likely integrate the Image Capture functionality. I would like this new iApp to recognize USB/FireWire Flash and SmartMedia readers like it does for cameras. I have a MicroTech ZiO that hasn't seen use for some time now because there are no OS X drivers for it. In fact, there aren't many USB readers that DO have OS X drivers.



    I would think that bringing the drivers into the OS would be the best solution for everybody. Apple would get to boast auto-download capabilities, everybody would be able to use their USB cardreaders again, and the producers of said devices wouldn't have to worry about their drivers anymore... only compatibility with Apple's. Heck, lots of devices use some standard of drivers (CD/DVD drives of all types, etc.).



    I just wish I didn't have to use that slow USB connectivity of my Olympus Camedia 3000.

    Hmm. "Image Capture Studio" maybe? Apple seems to be big on "studio" apps lately.

    - DVD Studio Pro

    - AppleWorks Studio



    You get the idea...

    iPhoto, iPicture, iPic, they all just dont sound that great in my opinion.

    Apple did it with iMovie and Final Cut Pro. They are not that afrade of adobe. Althogh I do not think they would go as far to make a photo equivilent of FinalCut pro. To compete hed to head with PhotoShop. But apple would dare to compeat with PhotoShop elements.



    Photoshop is a perfected master peice that has proven it's self. Photoshop elements is just an adobe app that has not yet been adopted as a standed in amiture photo editing like photoshop. With photo editing and importing apps right now there is no really clear leader. No one has a really good app.



    This is why apple is going to make iPhoto (steve will call is iFlix or somthing just to throgh roumror people off ). iPhoto will be more than just image edting. That is only part of digital photography. iPhoto will carry users thorgh each step of digital photograpy. And hold the users hand in helping them import, orginize edit and then ether print, put in a web page, or a photo album. It will be a compleat digital photography solution.



    Sure adobe should be scared. But that is there fult not apples.

    iPicture = iPhoto...nuff said?



    Remember, Jobs said that in iPhoto you can select an option to edit the picture(s) in another application (snub to Photoshop, remember?).



    I'm going to try my OSX version of Graphic Convertor with it...
