This was interesting...

So, will people start to move away from the "Linux-on-the-desktop" mentality and migrate to Apple's Mac OS X? It's hard to say, since it still requires you to have native Apple G3 or G4 hardware. If Apple were to migrate its OS onto x86 hardware, yes, Apple could take over the desktop market with Mac OS X. Apple just has to play its cards right--and soon.

I found this on the O'Reilly website. It was written in April of 2001. I just thought this was kind of interesting and I would share. :P

Was is right... I haven't read the article, but does it by any chance say any of the following:
"Apple should license it's OS"
"Apple can license their OS to Dell; Big Money $$"
"Apple can be the new Microsoft and license it's OS and take over the Desktop"
What's ironic is that Apple clearly isn't after the desktop since 4/5 of it's Mac lines are actually built like or are Laptops. The other one is just there for those who buy Shake and CSx and need the raw horsepower.

No. The article talks about software. The only mention of hardware is what I posted. And I think the author uses the word "desktop" to talk about the everyday computer (i.e. not servers or embedded devices which linux thrives on.)
The end of the article as a link to another: Mac OS X vs. Linux: Five Things Apple Should Do. I'm not sure if any of it really should happen but it's something to think about...or at least reflect on what has actually happened.
