Does anyone know if the Photoshop that is about to be released for X will run on OS9 as well? If not, then I am going to go ahead and buy the photoshop6 upgrade, if it does, i'll hold off for a while...

    Why run Phtoshop under 9?

I am using Phtoshop 7 beta under X and it truly rock! Waayy better than running under 9

because i'm poor, and i can't afford to buy OSX and photoshop, so i have to choose.

(unless someone wants to buy stuff for me... )

Leonis, are you using that leaked beta, or perhaps a newer build that you'd like to share details about? April can't get here soon enough...but then again wishing your life to speed up to get new software is kind of stupid given none of us knows how long we have.

    lol.

i'm going to be getting a new comp by years end most likely anyway, so i can wait at least that long. so maybe i can buy them both. adobe isn't my favorite company, but i may as well support them. after all, i can't imagine life without photoshop and illustrator.

Now I am using Beta 51 vs 43 I used a few weeks ago. I believe the latest beta is higher than 51 (but don't really know what number)

There was some erratic bug with stylus support under b43. But on beta 51 many of them are gone

Very stable. Has never crashed on me

Opening file is fast, fast, fast

MP support to me is much better than older version (I think it's mostly due to X's better MP support)

Some filters (like guassian blus, radial blur) are pretty zappy for beta filters.

Overall. I think it's VERY close to GM

Hope we will hear some announcement by the end of the month from Adobe.

My cash is already sitting here and wait for the upgrade.

Cool! Thanks for the update Leonis. This stuff, in comparison to all the G5 speculation we've been dragging ourselves through (smells like manure to me...) is a refreshing change of pace. Screen shots perhaps? Available on Carracho?

No there's not (in the way you think).

Books about Photoshop X, Illustrator X and so on have existed for years. The X is a place filler until Adobe announce the version number officially.

Photoshop won't be called Photoshop X and the books should cover the next Photoshop on all three platforms.

Sorry. My bad. My ignorance is showing again. :o

It was uplifting to me, anyway, that the publishers seem to be expecting the new version by April. It seemed to be one of those applications that was forever "just about" to be released, and others were moaning and wailing that Adobe may never release it.

    Ah, well.

That's not surprising since Adobe said that PS will be released in the March-April-May quarter.

They were at beta 43 around mid-December. They're now at beta 85 according to Railhead Design and the app was rock-solid even at beta 51 (which you can grab on Carracho). I couldn't find beta 55 or 85 on said piracy-mart.

Based on what Leonis and others are saying though, I'm now guessing an announcement will be made in Feb and the release perhaps in early March. Keep your fingers crossed....

    According to <a href="http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/top_news_item.cfm?NewsID=4137"; target="_blank">Macworld UK</a> -

[quote][Adobe vice president] Lamkin revealed: "We are working on a new version of Photoshop, with support for OS 9 and OS X, which will be available in the first half of this year."

His comments confirm recent statements by Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen, who told Cnet that Photoshop would be released in the second quarter 2002.<hr></blockquote>

    Let's hope they're being pessimistic.

Leonis...have you "heard" about Photoshop X's performance on an iBook? Just curious...Illustrator on my Pismo is preety good, but then I have 512 megs, which makes all X apps pretty tolerable. Thanks

    You asked the right person

I have an iBook too 600 DVD with 384MB RAM

Photoshop 7 on iBook is VERY SLOW. I guess it's due to the HD speed.

I remember back to my Pismo day Photoshop 6 was very slow even under OS 9 because of the HD.

BTW. I lost beta 51 due to the hard drive failure in my G4 (damn IBM, this is the forth time in six month ) And now back to b43

And Q2 according to Adobe is Mar-Apr-May.

Being pessimistic? Well, Illustrator was released earlier than they originally said

Guys, we're *in* the first half of this year. I think ole Bruce is just playing things close to his chest because that's what these guys do. If the guy at Railhead (very reliable in my mind) and elsewhere are correct about the recent builds' stability and performance, I doubt we're more than a few weeks from GM...I think availability in March is a good bet, unless they're going to wait for some trade show or some other event later on?
