iTunes radio

Out of curiosity, I surfed the radio stations in iTunes the other day. Surprisingly, there are some pretty decent stations. So now i ask,

1.what do any of you listen to on the iTunes network?

2. And, can we add stations not listed?

Currently I have had cryosleep going for 9 hours now

I've added stations before. I think I just went to the web sites (live 365, etc.) and when I clicked to listen they just showed up in my iTunes library.

Any others I should know about?

I've never added stations and I don't listen to it much since it's slow on dialup. If I had broadband I'd listen to it more often.

I do have a cable modem and I seek the 128 bit (or rarely 192) broadcasts. Good news is it never skips, unlike what I must imagine can be a very unpleasant experience on dial-up.

If anyone know a station playing indie rock a la the british shoegazing scene late 80/early 90 (slowdive, my bloody valentine, Ride aso) please say so. I am reliving my youth at the moment musicvise and need to rediscover all those bands I know I saw on 120 minutes/Alternative nation back then but never got to buy a record from.

A quick perusal of the iTunes stations brings up Perkigoth Radio, not quite what you're looking for judging from the oddly upbeat yet goth sound on this current song.

also sp1radio is cool

(SkaParade) although they are stuck on a voodoo glow skulls/christmas rotation last I checked... I'm not sure anymore... Cool nonetheless...

I was sitting in the Kids Section of the Apple Store the other day on one of the old iMacs because my feet were hurting from walking around the mall and I wanted to check my e-mail. Since I didn't have any cds with me to put in I decided to check out some of those stations. I never really used the radio feature in iTunes before. I couldn't believe how good the 128 bit stations were. Now I'm using it at times at home.

Zonetuke, iTunes plays Shoutcast playlists. That's how I found about half my stuff, but I listen to it in iTunes. Just an FYI in case.

When you download a Shoutcast playlist, drag it onto iTunes if it doesn'tstart playing automatically. You can toss the playlist, the link will remain in iTunes' library until you delete it. That's it. Live365.com, Shoutcast, and other sites all use Shoutcast playlists.

I've been listening to various Shoutcast and Live365 streams since spinner.com turned their back on the Mac community a couple of years ago. Aside from the acid jazz and downtempo mentioned above, there are a few lower fidelity streams I listen to quite often.

eyeLASH radio (Shoutcast) - 80s goth, synthpop.

<a href="http://www.bassdrive.com"; target="_blank">www.bassdrive.com</a> - The best DnB and Jungle station on the net.

<a href="http://66.7.171.119:8000/played.html"; target="_blank">http://66.7.171.119:8000/played.html</a>; - The Cure, The Jesus and Mary Chain. Pretty much exclusively.

World Serpent Radio (live365) - Apocalyptic folk.

Overall I enjoy the streams on Shoutcast much more than the Live365 broadcasts, but YMMV. Enjoy!

it is also available from live365. once itunes starts up the (any) stream, look at the bottom of your list of tunes (when set to all), and you will see the playlist. i dragged mine out onto the desktop, then into my dock. now, one click radio station!
